Important: This is a planning estimate, not an employer payroll-withholding engine. State calculations annualize the weekly pay entered and use simplified 2026 state tax rules. Federal income-tax withholding, dependents, credits, reciprocity rules, special wage treatment and local/city income taxes are not included. Actual paycheck withholding can differ.

How to calculate work hours

Enter the start and end time for each workday. Add any unpaid lunch or break minutes. The calculator subtracts unpaid breaks and totals the week automatically.

What the results mean

Total hours are split between regular and overtime hours based on the threshold you enter. Add an hourly rate to estimate gross pay. Choose a state to add a simplified 2026 state-income-tax estimate plus Social Security and Medicare, then see an estimated take-home amount before federal and local income tax.

Can it calculate an overnight shift?

Yes. When an end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight.

Can I change the overtime threshold?

Yes. The default is 40 hours, but you can enter the threshold and overtime multiplier you want to model.

Example: 40 regular hours plus overtime

If you work 43 hours at $20 per hour with overtime set to 1.5× after 40 hours, the tool treats 40 hours as regular time and 3 hours as overtime. Adding your state lets the paycheck section estimate the deductions currently included in the tool.

What is not included in take-home pay?

The displayed take-home estimate does not include federal income-tax withholding or local income tax. It can also differ from a real paycheck because payroll elections, benefits, deductions and state-specific rules vary.
